Program Description
Peer2Peer Lines is a non-crisis peer support lines that provide countywide telephone counseling services, support and referrals to children and youth/young adults, transitional age youth and another for caregivers/family members of at-risk or stressed children and youth including those who may struggle with mental health, alcohol/drugs or other concerns.
Position Description
- Develops a supportive, nurturing rapport with the child or youth caller and helps identify their needs.
- Establishes a welcoming connection to all child or youth callers to the support line.
- Communicates in a manner appropriate and respectful to the cultural needs of the callers.
- Assists callers in coping with stress and/or with mental health issues or other needs.
- Provides supportive and culturally sensitive youth training and coping skills to children and youth.
- Provides advocacy for children and youth and models healthy youth interactions.
- Assists callers with information and obtaining resources and assistance with community providers who also provide culturally competent services when needed.
- Knowledge of efficient operation of a sophisticated multi-line telephone system.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Minimum HS diploma or GED
- Must have life experience as a recipient of behavioral health services (child welfare, probation, and/or special education).
- Two + years of professional experience working with the target population preferred.
- Bilingual/Bicultural candidates are encouraged to apply.
