Our Supportive Behavioral Solutions (SBS) program is designed to provide help and support to children, youth, and dependent adults who have challenging behaviors that are interfering with their daily lives, such as poor social skills, defiance, opposition, assaultive behavior, tantrums, or destruction of property. At MHS we understand that behavior is a way of communicating needs. The goal of behavioral support is to identify what the behavior is communicating and to find a healthier way to express that need. SBS focuses on changing behavior while emphasizing strengths. We work with both the client and their family to shift their understanding in order to identify and change the things that trigger the challenging behavior. Through our innovative approach, we are able to reduce and replace problem behaviors, as we offer solutions for change and teach skills such as anger management, problem-solving, parenting, and social skills.
SBS is a home and community based, short-term, intensive service, provided for an average of three months. Each service is tailored to the individual client and their family. A trained Behavioral Coach assists the client and caregiver with development of structure and new learning experiences that promote positive behaviors and new life skills. Services are designed to help clients and caregivers gain new ways of managing problem behaviors and provide them with the coping skills needed to reduce or eliminate the behaviors.
Our focus is on each client as an individual, as we offer professional assistance and compassion to guide them to a more productive life. Our goal is to empower these young people and provide the support they need to succeed in their communities.

What is expected of parents or caregivers?
- Parents/caregivers agree to allow the SBS Behavioral Coach into their home or community to provide services, and to provide him or her with a safe environment in which to work with their family.
- Services are a partnership between them and their SBS Behavioral Coach. They need to actively participate in the behavioral interventions and make recommended behavioral changes.
- Their participation is a vital part of the client’s progress. They are urged to keep all scheduled appointments and be physically present and attentive when the services are being provided.
- They also need to attend treatment team meetings and provide feedback about those changes in behaviors that they see.
